Who are we?

The Republic of Bushistan is a micronation located in Eastern North Carolina. It is North Carolina's oldest active micronation. Bushistan is the most culturally Southern and North Carolinian micronation in the state, being located in a more rural area. 

Our History

On December 17th, 2020, Dan, my brother, and his friend, found a collection of navigable bushes. This was established as Bush County. Two days later, the idea of declaring independence was proposed by my brother. On December 19th, 2020, Bushistan's declaration of Independence and first constitution was written and signed by Dan, my brother, and his friend. After some debate, with the original proposed name being Bushia, the name of the Democratic Republic of Bushistan was settled. Shortly after Christmas, Thomas soon claimed that he found Bushistan first. This dispute led to my brother and his friend leaving the nation. Only Thomas and Dan remained. The nation was then renamed to simple the Republic of Bushistan, and the flag was changed to its modern iteration. Soon after, in January 2021, my brother and his friend returned to attempt to take over the nation. Thomas and Dan repealed this attack, and a second one a few days later. Bushistan established its first discord server in January of 2021. This is where the Drotucians met Bushistan. They became a very important ally of Bushistan, and remain important in the nation today. 

Serramwen

Bushistan met Serramwen in February of 2021. They became closer to Bushistan, and eventually, due to economic stuff, a decision was made to merge with Serramwen. However, Bushistani people did not like this change, and opposed it. Eventually, independence was restored about a day later. Relations with Serramwen remained strained until their dissolution in 2024.

Bushistan went through many servers due to early raids and nukings. Eventually, with better security, this stopped being an issue around 2022. Bushistan has had the same server since then, the most stable it's ever been

The DRotUCEian period

For a short time in 2023, Bushistan joined the DRotUCE after a referendum. However, only around a month later, with Charles Madgett being elected as the governor, the house passed a new referendum for independence. In the referendum, the majority voted for independence, and the next day, Bushistan declared independence. As per the treaty, the DRotUCE accepted, and Bushistan was recognized as independent by the DRotUCE

Bosniak and marital law

In August of 2024, Bosniak became president of Bushistan. After an illegal law was passed by him, banning dual citizenship, he was unanimously impeached. His administration was removed after martial law was declared by the house. Civilian authority was soon restored. This is the only use of martial law in Bushistan history

The Deania War

Around March 27th, 2025, Dan's brother had taken a part of Bushistan near Fort Vance and declared it as his own nation named Deania. The President began negotiations to try to get back the land, and have Deania established elsewhere. At the time, the Republic had already been training forces for potential conflicts. After the refusal to vacate the lane, on March 28th, 2025, the Republic of Bushistan's 1st infantry division invaded Deania. The nation was under military occupation within an hour
